The first picture show a flooded street. We think that it�??s because of a river who overflowed . In this picture we can see buildings and a street full of water but what shocks more is that in the middle of this street we see a man who�??s knee-deep in the water. We could understand that he makes signs with his arms to ask for help. The pity for him is that nobody�??s on the street, we think that because of the danger of this flood, everybody went back on their houses.

On the second picture, we can see a beach where there are houses and a lot of trees. The only problem is that in this picture a tsunami�??s coming and unfortunately, he gets on the trees and devaste everything on his way.

So the thing that these two pictures have in common is a water disaster (a flood on the 1st picture and a Tsunami on the 2nd picture.)

A flood (like on the 1st picture) intervenes when it rains so much that the ground cannot absorb water any more with the result that the river overflows. On the other hand, a tsunami is perhaps caused by an underwater earthquake, underwater nuclear tests or the impact of a meteorite in the ocean.

The more time advances and the more the number of disasters like that increase. However the more time advances and more technologies to warn us of possible risks improve.They improve, certainly, but they don�??t help us to stop this risks.Us, in France and in Poland, we are well off because this types of disasters are more murderous and happened most of the time in countries in the process of development because of :

1)The poverty and the weakness of the infrastructures of assistance and prevention.

2)The demographic growth makes that for example in certain countries, the floods are today up to 20 times more fatal than in the 80�??s.

3)The destruction of the environment, such as for example deforestation, can cause landslides or worsen the extent of the tropical storms

So the more time will advance and more the populations of the vulnerable countries will increase, with the result that when they are touched, there will be more deaths. Then the more time advances, and more deforestation increases and more the landslides will be frequent. We are not afraid too much by this kind of catastrophes because we know that our countries are enough developed but we are conscious of what happened in the USA last year, with the hurricane Catrina. So in another direction we know that no one is not with the shelters.

For future, we need a big solidarity: From all those which have the capacity to reduce pollution, all those which have the capacity of stop deforestation, all those which have the capacity of stop the underwater tests nuclear, all people who could make efforts not to let run water unnecessarily and save electricity.

Because those which pay the consequences of these things are the innocent ones.

Moreover, we hope that the infrastructure and the means of prevention will be reinforced in the poor countries to make it possible to save the most lives possible in the event of possible disasters.

On the first picture i can see the flooded city. In the middle of the road, there is a man who is in my opinion pointing something - probably the situation which is shown on the second picture.

On the second pictute i can see the shore, which is being hit by Tsunami. Fortunately, the beach seems to be empty, but it's also possible that all people who were there before are already dead.

a) I think these distasters may be caused by for example flooding rivers beacuse of too much rain, melting snow or underwater earthquakes/volcanic eruptions. Situation isn't THAT bad though, beacose nowadays we have many ways to predict incoming catastrophe - we have many computers, seismograpahs and many other technologically advanced machines who can help us with getting know WHEN those distasters can come.

b) Yes, those catastrophes scare me, but to be honest i haven't seen something like that on my eyes (well, maybe i've seen the flood many years ago, but still only on TV screen) so i can't even imagine how it's like to be in the center of those catastrophes.

c) In my opinion there is no way to predict those catastrophes - the only way which can be improved is getting better machines which can help us to predict the incoming distaster faster, and trying to make the escape method's faster and safer.

In the picture we can see disaster exactly results of tidal wale. In the foreground we can see a lot of water which is very agitation. In the background we can see many trees and in upper right corner we can see many buldings.

In the first picture I can see a flooded city. The second picture probably represents a shore hit by a Tsunami.

I think these disasters may be provoked by melting snow, rivers flooding the surrounding area because of too much rain, underwater earthquakes. Currently this type of catastrophe is getting more predictable. We have computers, seismographs and other machines that can predict these kinds of things. I think that in the future we will be able to fully eliminate these threats.

I�??m not scared of these catastrophes, but I don�??t know why. The remedy would be frequent seismograph analysis, making river banks higher, also a quick evacuation plan in case we couldn�??t stop it would be useful too.

In the photo number one I can see a flood in the center of the city. The street is all in water. In the middle of the street there is a human. I think this human is probably a policeman in his hard work. In this picture I can see also some houses. I think that this photo has taken not long ago in France. In the second picture I can see very big flood. In the foreground there is a stormy sea and in the background there is a flood in the city. In that place probably has been tsunami wave and lot of people have died. I think that this picture shows very big disaster which have been in 2004 on the coasts of Indian Ocean. On the first picture, it is a flood in a city with a person in the middle of water who raises the arms. Around him, there are buildings but no people. We think rests of people were staying in their house.

On the second picture, it is a tsunami on a seaside, with houses and trees, which are devastated by the power of the sea. The seaside is flooding by waves and the village is destroyed and under water.

These two pictures concern the damages caused by water in particular the floods. We still have in mind the tsunami of December 2004 in Indonesia when we watched it on the TV.

Tsunami is caused by an earthquake in the sea. On the contrary, floods are caused by the risings, the storms, the hurricane, etc. We think such disasters are aggravated by the human activity because we cut forests and so the natural defenders against floods. Furthermore, people use more and more machines and products. In the Eighties, these disasters were not such a width. Today, there is a global warming which causes an increase of rains. In the future, it risks of increasing if we don't make decisions to limit the risks of appearance of these disasters.

These disasters don't frighten us because we live in cities where there is no risk of earthquake. Concerning the floods, for Matthieu:"there is no river which could overflow until my house even if there is a big storm", and for Ku Michal: "I didn't experience them, but in 2001, we had a big flood in Poland and I beg God that it didn't come to me."

We purpose solutions for tsunamis as a strengthened monitoring of earthquakes, means of faster evacuations for the persons and more solid houses. For the floods, dams to avoid the floods, reservoirs of water and also means of faster evacuations.

From our personal point of view, we think that we should all make an effort to protect environment in general: to switch off lights when we are not in a room for example, to limit the global warming and thus avoid these disasters.

Traffic signs is typical european signs, maybe the innondation is in France! The second pictures is a consequence of a tidal wave, in Phuket beach. we can see dismounted sea after tidal's passage and floods in the plains. The common point between them is the force dévastatrice of water: a flood for the first, a tsunami for the second.

1] The flood is a consequences of abundant rain in a basin, is a natural effect who's humans never control. But, humain build in easily flooded zone and floods are inevitables. Sometimes, hurricanes or other disasters can make floods and, they are more and more hurricanes as the ground is heated, the floods are likely to be frequent soon!

2] The tidal wave is an effet of underwater earthquake, humans haven't got relation with earthquake frequency because is a natural réaction of earth activity. Earthquake fréquency will not change between now and futur...

The second photo represent a coast which was touched by a seastorm or a tidal wave (tsunami) because the disaster carried a boat on his way. We remarks that the littoral was slightly devasted because the water reached the coasts. We have the impression that the sea crossed the "piece" of ground which separates it on other shore.

The two photos evoke the same topic. They shows us naturals disasters, the damages which they can caused. The number of victims increased considerably.

2. a) These examples of disasters are very dangerous for the men, they can caused millions victims, provoked property damages importants (utilities). All the substructures destroyed will have to be rebuilding. The pollution can increased notably on the level of hygiene because water carries all on his passage.

b) Naturals disasters scares me my life being concerned, our life can rocked. The economy is likely to drop and the state must to intervene by steeing up financials means and materials in order to rebuild the city for country.

In the future, with the evolution of technologies, we will be able to limit the disasters but not to envisage. It would be necessary to respect the environement by limiting the oxygen in the air. The population should be ton inform by exercices of help to decrease the global warming.

The first picture represents a flood in one of the streets of a large city, we can see a person in the center of this street flooded.

The second picture reprensents a natural disaster, more precisely a Tsunami which has a destroying effect on the environment and which floods the dwellings behind this beach and that will cause casualties.

The common points between these two pictures are the natural disasters with destroying effect, in these two situations they are floods that will cause damages on the dwelling, on environment as well as psychological shocks on the population (casualties, material losses and brutal change of life as well as a fear constente that these catastrophes reproduce).

Such catastrophes can cause casualties, material losses, psychological things, rubble, landslides, mudslide, changes in the new environment. Of rebuildings, of solidarity between people and suffering�?�

In the future there will be more and more natural disasters because of the climatic changes, there will be rebuildings and employment there will be a lack in economy, touristic locals will miss�?�

The natural disasters are very afraid because no one knows what it can produces, one apprehend, we are afraid to loose family, goods�?�

We can suggest several things for these catastrophes, like:

-to reducing the pollution.

-to push back the dwellings close to the littorals.

-to create barrages.

-to respect the environment.

a) On foreground of that picture I can see a lot of water between the houses. In the middle of the picture is a man whois standing in the water. There is a lot of road signs but I believe it is not important here In the background I can see a road so deduction is easy: this town survived a flood.
b) The picture B shows sea on the left, the outskirts of the city on the right and trees between them. This picture showsthe disaster too because the water reaches the buildings on the right but in this case I think it isn�??t a flood but it is a city after tsunami

2) QUESTIONS

a) In my opinion the first disaster is provoked by shallow river bed or by the ice melts if that city was near the mountains. In case of the second disaster there could be a earthquake on sea / ocean like in that in Indonesia. Of course it could be the very high tide but�?� I don�??t think so. Hmm �??Explain the evolution from the 1980s to the 2000s.�?� ok so there have to be one cause to both of this pictures. I feel that will be a changing of climate specially the greenhouse effect and moves of tectonic tunes. From 1980 to 2000 the number of those accidents was bigger and bigger. The greenhouse effect is stronger day after day so the level of the water is higher every year. Well I don�??t know how changes of climate are changing the tectonic moves but I�??m sure there is a small change in it. I think that in the future this situation become worse and worse.
b) Of course. These catastrophes are terrible. There are so many deaths in it and a lot of damage�?�ehh there is no word to describe it.
c) The only solution for that case is to convince the governments and the important people in world industry to take care of the pollution of our planet and to sponsor the systems of prevention to give more time to escape.

2) Such disasters cause a destruction of the dwellings, human losses. The tradesmen and the farmers are touched then they have much evil to start again their activity because their buildings are in a crisis and they have financial losses then the stores close. The damage is also material since in certain cases electricity must be cut, water is nondrinkable and there is a lack of hygiene what causes epidemics.

     Between 1980 and 2000, the risk of catastrophes is weaker in the countries with strong income than in the States with weak or average income. The catastrophes multiply and the consequences are disastrous but the more the years pass and the more technology evolves/moves. 
The plans of preventions of the risks were to create.  
The State and the local communities bring financial assistances to complete work to protect the places inhabited against the floods. 
     In the future one can envisage an increase in the natural disasters.

Moreover, the films concerning these phenomena are for me excellent films since they show how to protect itself, the causes and the consequences and I takes pleasure has to look at them and to think that that could occur one day that frightens me. 
  c) I will suggest to decrease the pollution which invaded air and to have more prevention against the natural disasters

1) In the 1st picture, we can see a man who is standing in the midle of the road. The picture was probably taken in the city center because there are many big building, narrow streets and post signs. Part of the road is flooded. we can as notice as water is mounted rather high bus the traffic signs are almost covered by this one.

The second picture presents a sea and the coast line. Probably the whole area was flooded as well. There are also some houses which were flooded. Both pictures are characterized by flat. There is much water in both pictures.These two photographs show us the extent of the natural disasters.

2a) Too much rain maybe the reason of frequent floods. Melting of the ice bergs may also provoke floods. Between the years 1980-2000 the atmosphere become much warmer. Winters are much milder than in the past. In the future the atmosphere will probably become even warmer. There will be more and more floods and earthquakes. We knows many examples of races to the economic growth and the improvement of the social conditions leading to the creation of new risks of catastrophes. The fast urbanization constitutes an example of it. These establishments are often located in ravines, or near steep slopes, along the easily flooded or adjacent plains with industrial plants or harmful or dangerous infrastructures of transport. During two last decades, more than 1,5 million people died because of natural disasters. Nearly 75% of the world population in affected zones at least once lives, between 1980 and 2000, by a phenomenon such as tropical cyclone, earthquake, flood or dryness . In the future, these catastrophes go increased because of a concentration too important of the men in zones known as has high risks .

b) David think the such catastrophes are terrible, because they do much harm both to people and to the environment. They scare me, because many people can die.That frightens me because one does not know what I will occur in the future.

c) David think that it is difficult to find possible solutions against earthquakes and floods, because they are natural disasters and people are helpless but in case of fire people can be more careful. THE ANALYSE ABOUT THE TWO PHOTOGRAPHS ! Magda H & Żaneta H.

                             The picture both presents disasters.

On the picture A (I mean the picture with the flood and with trees) we can see the tidal wave. That�??s a kind of wave that appears on the see, when there is an earthquake or an eryption in the see.
It is very dangerous phenomen it comen very fast to the coast, so the people can�??t run away and they just die.
The leatest example of the biggest tidal wave in the history is the one that had hit the Tajland coast two years ago just before Christmas 4000 people died.
Unfortunately the scientists don�??t know how to prevent people and environment against the unexpected tidal waves in the future.

  On the picture B we can see the flood in the city.

The streets are covered by the water, and propably the dirty water is inside the shops, houses and everywhere when it can go into.
This kind of disaster is quite different from this on picture A, unless it is the city in the background of picture A. this flood is easier to present because we know that the flood is coming at last few hours before it comes.
We can evacuate the people , save the valuable things ,but of course not always. Sometimes it is also unexpected and many people can die too. Sock a disasters can be caused by nature or by the people.
The first ones are more difficult to remedy because they are unexpected, the second ones are we will think about the environment protection we will find the solution sooner or later.
Both of the disasters scary me a lot , but me and my friends live in Poland in Silesia and we will never see have the tidal wave but ten years ago near my town there was the biggest flood is Poland In the 20th century.
Many towns were under the water for almost .Many people last everything. It was really horrible .
I hope I will never have to fight with flood in my live , and I wish you the same!

Yes these catastrophe scare me because we can die because of these natural disasters. Especially, ti die of drowning is really terrifying. The disaters scare me because we can lose everything that we have.

Picture 1 : we could already arrange some darms aroud the rivers to stop wateer from erossing the cities and villages and so to avoid the disasters..

Picture 2 : We could manufacture some machines capable to warn the tidal wave and soto be able to evacuate the cities then before the disaster to make the prevention. It is necessary to recycle, to make our possible to avoid the climatic changes.
